About Liz - Our Founder’s Story
Christian Eco-Dating represents the convergence of two passions and a great deal of personal, academic and professional experience. Let’s start with the passions.
Firstly, God’s Creation – the ‘Eco’ in ‘Christian Eco-Dating’. My brother died when I was five. At the time, two things saved me: Jesus and my cat! As a result, I have an incredible love of Jesus, and of all of Creation that reflects Him and His glory. It brings me much pain and distress that this Creation is under such threat and distress – I feel called to be part of saving it.
Bringing people together to help solve a problem we are all currently facing with the Climate and Nature Emergency, is something I love doing. It brings joy and excitement to my heart. And bringing people together is, in fact, the second passion that underpins Christian Eco-Dating.
I believe we are called as Christians to unite as a team to love and help others. Marriage is too special and too sacred an institution to be entered into lightly but meeting other single Christians isn’t always easy. I was lucky enough to meet my husband on a Christian website – but we had both been on the site for around 6 or 7 years. It was a slow process but as committed Christians, we both wanted to meet someone who shared our faith. Ever since then, I have puzzled over how to help other single Christians to meet their life partner without the ‘swiping’ and ‘blocking’ and ‘ghosting’ of the online world.
Christian Eco-Dating is the solution. It provides an opportunity for like-minded Christian singles to meet in a way that is more productive, more fun – and hopefully quicker – than the online world allows. Our model is predicated on the concept of serving the other. We bring together groups of single Christians to work together on environmental projects – getting to know one another whilst operating within God’s grace; seeing each other in the best light possible and being together in team situations to see how we really operate.
Team-helping experiences provide a platform to show personality and character, is less awkward and ultimately more fun than online dating, and provides the fantastic opportunity of encouraging and supporting one another while working shoulder to shoulder in helping save Our Earth. Christian Eco-Dating will provide this unique opportunity to further bring the Kingdom of God to earth, through building up Christian marriage, while concurrently saving our Earth, Our Common Home.
As for my background – well a Masters in International Development, my work creating Development Education Programmes for Schools for Caritas Aotearoa NZ (CAFOD), my Level One Diploma in Business Studies and my Bachelor of Education and Teaching degree, have all provided me with a set of strategic development, programme planning and writing skills which I have utilised throughout my career. Skills that I can now deploy in the development of Christian Eco-Dating.
I get so much joy from developing and encouraging the potential in people and from the possibilities that arise. Christian Eco-Dating brings all of this together in the ultimate expression of that joy: using my skills and experience to help Christian Singles find each other, and contributing to safeguarding Creation in the process – it is a calling that brings me such hope and light, I am dedicating my life to bringing it to fruition.
